Artist of the Week

Although no longer necessarily an underground artist, our first Artist of the Week is Carter Ace. This inaugural AOTW is a nod to one of our first underground finds and favorite artists— one that’s not so underground anymore.

The Sound

Carter Ace blurs the lines between hip-hop, soul, and funk, and is probably better described as genre-agnostic. His music often bounces with playful energy, while his lyrics balance wit and introspection. It’s a sound that surprises without straining, inviting listeners to explore unique soundscapes across every track. Whether it’s a subtle melody or a punchy hook, he makes space for both movement and reflection.

Born in Los Angeles and raised between the U.S. and West Africa, Carter Ace grew up immersed in music, with a father who was an artist and a mother who danced in his band. By middle school, he was performing everywhere he could — all-age venues, restaurants, and underground gigs — while studying the sounds of OutKast, Kanye West, and D’Angelo. Blending otherworldly R&B, hard-hitting hip-hop, neo-soul, space funk, and even punk, he crafted a genre-defying style with his longtime bandmates. His relentless grind led to millions of streams and a deal with Joe Jonas’s Let’s Get It Records and Republic Records. Today, Carter Ace continues to push sonic boundaries, breaking new ground with every release
